Iranian official calls for further co-op with Pakistan on banking, transportation

'Both countries have to take major strides in banking and transportation fields,' Nahavandian told Pakistan's Foreign Minister Khawja Muhammad Asif visiting him in Tehran on Monday.

'Although the trade level between Iran and Pakistan shows 35% growth, we should set 5 billion euros as a target in the post-sanction era,' Nahavandian said.

He added Central Banks of the two countries should implement the € 500 m-bilateral letter of credit (LC) agreement in three months.

On the problem of terrorism, Nahavandian told his Pakistani visitor that military and poitial confrontation against extremism is necessary but a full-scale encounter against it needs cooperation in both cultural and economic fields.

Meanwhile, Asif called for accelerating preferential and free trade negotiations between Iran and Pakistan.

He pointed to Tehran-Islamabad cooperation in electricity and gas as advantageous for both countries.

Pakistani diplomat reiterated that Iran, Pakistan and China trilateral cooperation on investing in transportation and energy fields should speed up.
